Andrew Burges studied architecture at the University of Sydney, where he graduated with first class honours and the University Medal in 1992. As the recipient of the Frank Knox Fellowship to Harvard University, the Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship, and the University of Sydney Hezlet Bequest, Andrew completed a Master of Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, graduating with Distinction in 1996. Andrew has 25 years’ experience in architectural practice, including 15 years as principal of Andrew Burges Architects. Prior to forming his practice in 2001 Andrew worked in firms in Sydney, New York and Boston, developing expertise in large scale urban master planning and urban housing proposals, civic and sporting structures associated with the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and school campus planning. In his role as a design architect at Bruce James and Partners, Andrew was responsible for the winning entry of the Sydney Olympic Village Competition.

While working as a design architect at Bligh Voller Nield (BVN) Andrew worked successfully on competition-winning multi-residential designs for the International Gardens Park and Four Seasons Development in Pudong, China and the Centre for Christianity and Culture in Canberra. Andrew’s work in practice as principal of ABA has been published extensively and exhibited both locally and internationally, including the 2008 Venice Biennale, and the 2005 ‘Out From Under: Contemporary Australian Architecture Now’, exhibition in San Francisco, Seattle, Hong Kong and China. More recently ABA were the inaugural winner of the Think Brick Open Face competition 2011, shortlisted in the Australia House Competition in Japan, 2011, and the winner of City of Sydney’s International Design Competition for the Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

In parallel to his work in practice Andrew has extensive experience in architectural education in both Australia and the United States. Andrew was an adjunct professor at Rhode Island School of Design between 1997-2000, has 10 years experience teaching graduation studios at University of Sydney and University of New South Wales, and has been a regular design critic at Harvard University, Columbia University, and Rhode Island School of Design in the US, as well as University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, and University of Technology, Sydney.

Andrew has been a member of the Australian Institute of Architects since 1994, and has been a registered architect since 2003.

Min started with ABA at the outset in 2002, and re-joined the practice in 2015. As Project Director Min is involved in design development across the office, with particular focus on translating sketch design concepts into construction - focusing on detailed design, construction documents, and site administration. Min was the project architect for the Bismarck house in Bondi, winning the Australian Institute of Architects 2020 Hugh & Eva Buhrich Award for Residential Architecture in NSW.

During the past twenty years in practice, working previously with Andrew Metcalf, BVN, Welsh+Major, MCK, and Tobias Partners, Min has also made a substantial contribution toward teaching architecture at the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney. Min maintains this connection to teaching, regularly participating in design reviews at the University of New South Wales, the University of Sydney, and the University of Technology Sydney.

Min studied architecture at the University of Newcastle, graduating with first class honours in 1997.

Peter studied architecture at the University of Sydney, graduating with a Masters of Architecture in 2014. During his Masters, he studied abroad at Aarhus Arkitektskolen. He was shortlisted for the Australian Institute of Architects Graduate Award in 2014, the University of Sydney George McRae Prize for Architecture Construction in 2013, and the University of Sydney Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship.

Prior to joining Andrew Burges Architects in 2018, Peter worked at FJMT where he gained experience working on a range of large scale projects including acting as site architect for a commercial project during construction.

At ABA, Peter was lead architect for the Hills Academy Early Learning Centre, and the Ashmore Street Childcare Centre Erskineville. More recently Peter is working as a project architect for residential projects in design and construction.

Eric studied architecture at the University of Technology Sydney, graduating with a Masters of Architecture in 2018. He also studied abroad in Denmark while undertaking his bachelors degree, and worked with ADEPT in Copenhagen.

Eric received the 2018 Architect’s Medallion which is awarded each year by the NSW Architects Registration Board to a graduate of the Master of Architecture course in NSW who has achieved distinction throughout the final two years of the course. Eric was later awarded the 2018 University of Technology Graduate of the Year, awarded by the NSW Australian Institute of Architects Chapter.

Eric is a considered designer with a breadth of knowledge for architectural precedents and literature. At ABA he is pivotal in shaping early concept strategies, diagramming approaches and formal studies as part of the initial design process.

Eric has an active role in architectural education, tutoring history and theory, and architectural communication and design studios at the University of Technology Sydney. Eric is also co-founder of Post-Publication.

Regan studied architecture at the University of Technology, graduating with a Masters of Architecture in 2011, winning the Australian Institute of Architects Graduate Design Medal. Following graduation he moved to Los Angeles to work at Gehry Partners as an intern, and was promoted to an ongoing permanent position. In London, Regan worked at David Kohn Architects, and Foster and Partners. Prior to moving abroad he worked in Sydney at ASPECT Studios, and Grimshaw.

Regan joined ABA in 2017, working on the Gunyama Aquatic and Recreation Centre. More recently Regan is working as a project architect for residential projects in design and construction.

Eva studied architecture at ETSAB Barcelona School of Architecture, graduating with a Masters of Architecture 2012, having also studied abroad at TUDelft in The Netherlands during her coursework.

Following a move to Sydney from Girona, a beautiful medieval city in the northeast of Spain, Eva worked on multi-residential projects at Crone Architects, and later working for Jon Jacka Architects where she gained experience on residential projects and the St George Sailing Club.

Eva joined ABA in 2019, filling a key role on the Parramatta Aquatic Centre. Eva has been instrumental in the detailed resolution and co-ordination of the civil and landscape works, the detailed integration of client requirements for the interior, and the development and delivery of key construction packages.

Eva brings a clear and considered approach to design, with a keen understanding for detailed design and documentation, and the capacity to integrate multiple consultants on large projects.

Tiffany studied architecture at the University of Technology Sydney, graduating with a Masters of Architecture in 2018. During her studies she was nominated for the Australian Institute of Architects Communication Student Award, and received both the Neville Quarry Scholarship and the Concrete and Masonry Association Award.

Following graduation, she worked as an Intern at Kengo Kuma Associates in Tokyo and was promoted to a permanent position at the end of the internship. Prior to joining ABA in 2022, Tiffany worked on large scale projects such as multi-residential buildings, museums, visitor centres and public domain projects for Sydney practices including KTA, Silvester Fuller, and Aspect Studios.

At ABA, Tiffany is currently working as a project architect for residential projects in design and construction.

Charles studied architecture at the University of Technology Sydney, graduating with a Masters of Architecture in 2023. Charles obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Sydney in 2018, and prior to studying architecture Charles worked as a 3D modeller producing architectural visualisations in Korea.

At ABA Charles works across multiple projects assisting with design resolution and drawings, preparing schematic visualisations during design development, as well as high end visualisations for client presentations. He is an accomplished modelmaker, is able to solve complex 3-dimensional design solutions in BIM software, and has recently introduced VR technology into the office workflow.

Alongside his work at ABA, Charles teaches architectural visualisation workshops at the University of Technology, and the University of Sydney.

Diego studied architecture at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso PUCV in Chile, graduating with high distinction in 2007.

Diego’s professional experience is international and broad, having worked in Santiago, Buenos Aires, Sydney, and Chilean Patagonia. In Australia, Diego has worked for accomplished Sydney practices since he arrived in 2011 and has been involved in award-winning projects such as the President Avenue apartments, awarded the Aaron Bolot Award 2017 by the Australian Institute of Architects.

He has experience across all the stages of a project, from sketch design to construction documentation, and on-site supervision.

Diego joined ABA in early 2022 and is currently working on a range of public, residential and commercial projects.

Karin studied at Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio, Switzerland. She graduated with a Master of Science in Architecture under professor Valerio Olgiati in 2022.

Prior joining ABA Karin worked for Templeton Architecture and Candalepas Associates.

Karin joined ABA in 2023, and is assisting with design development across a range of projects. Karin is a registered architect at the Order of Architects of Milan, Italy (Ordine degli Architetti di Milano).

James studied architecture at the University of New South Wales, graduating with a Masters of Architecture in 2021.

Prior to joining ABA James worked as a Student Demonstrator teaching model making to architecture students at the University of New South Wales, and was independently employed building professional presentation and sketch models.

At ABA James has primarily been tasked with making physical models assisting at all stages of the design process, from site models to detailed studies of interior spaces for client presentations.

Lily studied architecture at the University of Technology, Sydney, graduating with a a Bachelor of Design in Architecture in 2021 and a Master of Architecture in 2024.

Her university work has recently been short-listed for the 2024 ArchitectureAU Unbuilt Award and the 2022 Brian Patrick Keirnan Award. She has also been featured in the Illawarra Festival of Architecture and Design 2023 and the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism 2023. Prior to joining ABA, Lily completed work experience with Benson Mccormack Architects in 2020.

Lily has a fine eye for design and detail and is eager to contribute creatively to the field of architecture.

Jason supports Andrew Burges Architects in a Practice Management capacity.

Jason’s passion lies in business, systems and helping Architects get the most out of their practice. A Chartered Accountant and capable operations manager, Jason has a well rounded approach when it comes to financial control.
